Gideon Yu, a Silicon Valley investor, executive and philanthropist, has been elected to the board of trustees of the nonprofit Monterey Bay Aquarium.
A Stanford University graduate, Yu is co-founder and CEO of EVA Automation. He was the chief financial officer for both Facebook and YouTube, as well as senior vice president and treasurer of Yahoo.
He later was a partner at the venture capital firm, Khosla Ventures, and is a minority owner of the San Francisco 49ers, where he served as president and chief strategy officer, and helped the team meet its technology and sustainability goals when it opened Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara.
Yu has served on the boards of the UC-San Francisco Medical Foundation, Tipping Point and Build.
“Gideon brings a great breadth of experience and enthusiasm for the aquarium’s mission,” said aquarium Board Chair Stephen C. Neal. “We’re thrilled that he has chosen to put those talents to work in service of our growing efforts with young people and as a global ocean conservation leader.”
The mission of the nonprofit Monterey Bay Aquarium is to inspire conservation of the ocean.
