The Monterey Bay Aquarium celebrates children and families during the annual Día del Niño event on Sunday, April 30. The day is filled with special presentations, activities and performances throughout the aquarium. Children 12 years old and under admitted free all day.
During the cultural event, families are entertained and delighted with a selection of fun activities and lively performances.
Visitors can enjoy the traditional Mexican melodies of singer Gabriela Sepulveda as seen on the national program “La Voz Kids,” with Javier Vargas and Mariachi California, will perform at 12, 1 and 2 p.m. on the Great Tide Pool Deck.
Join our African penguins for a feeding program in Spanish and English at 3 p.m., and learn how you can help protect penguins in the wild. Then stop by the special bilingual feeding program at 4 p.m. in the Kelp Forest exhibit! Visitors can watch a bilingual diver hand-feed sharks, fishes and other kelp forest dwelling animals.
The Discovery Lab classrooms transform into a craft room from 1 to 4 p.m. where children and their families get creative, making “stained glass” sea creatures with tissue paper.
Día del Niño visitors can come nose-to-nose with furry and charismatic sea otters, colorful jellies, mysterious octopuses, schools of sardines and many more magical marine species, as well as speak with knowledgeable guests from Scholarshare, Save the Whales, the Mexican Consulate, Our Children’s Earth Foundation and Hola Run Organization.
Día del Niño offers great ways for children and families to gain a deeper appreciation for marine life at the aquarium and beyond. Regular admission is $49.95 for adults; $39.95 for seniors (over 65) and students (full-time college, with I.D.); children 12 and under will receive free admission for this event only (2017 prices; subject to change).
