A virtual walking tour of the Monterey Bay Aquarium is now just a click away. The award-winning aquarium joins the White House, Taj Mahal, Eiffel Tower and other global landmarks featured in Google Maps Street View, and is the first aquarium on the iconic site to offer both interior and exterior images.

Considered one of the world’s great aquariums, the Monterey Bay Aquarium in Monterey, California, showcases the wonders of our ocean planet in nearly 200 galleries and living exhibits. Highlights include one of the largest jellyfish collections anywhere, a two-story exhibit of playful sea otters, a towering three-story kelp forest, a million-gallon Open Sea exhibit with sea turtles, hammerhead sharks, tunas and more; a walk-through wave crash tunnel; and the award-winning Splash Zone family galleries with tropical corals and fishes, penguins, and other engaging animals and activities. The aquarium’s website features several live cams.

The aquarium joins other prominent natural wonders, architectural landmarks and museums around the world in Google Maps Street View. Other notable collections include the White House, the Taj Mahal, the Eiffel TowerSt. Mark’s Square in Venice, the Gálapagos Islands, the Art Institute of Chicago and the San Diego Zoo.

As with the other collections, Monterey Bay Aquarium’s beautiful galleries appear in 360-degree splendor. While exploring the virtual aquarium, you can spot a diver in the signature Kelp Forest exhibit, peek at shorebirds in the Aviary, marvel at a swirl of thousands of sardines in the million-gallon Open Sea exhibit, see waves crashing off decks overlooking Monterey Bay, and more.

Google Map’s Street View team mapped the aquarium in May 2013, using the Google Trolley to map the inside, and the Google Trekker outside.

In 2014, the nonprofit Monterey Bay Aquarium celebrates its 30th anniversary. Its mission is to inspire conservation of the oceans.
